The body will include professional leadership, county-wide volunteers, the EA, Cumbria County Council, all implicated Local Authorities and Cumbria University, forming a partnership. Other expert bodies with relevant experience will be sought. It is seen by the CFAG as a potential model format for country-wide partnerships. Steered by local knowledge, experience from the Somerset Rivers Authority, and Pickering's 'slow the flow' activity.
This proposal, put before 600 residents and businesses on Monday last, received enthusiastic endorsement. The confluence of three rivers offer opportunity to accrue new knowledge (and re-learn knowledge lost) on water system management, of value to other communities in similar straits.
We prefer to move on this proposal at speed working with you closely. We should be grateful to meet with you at your earliest convenience. We cannot emphasise too strongly the nervousness of our community (both personal and financial) as it awaits a third 1 in 1000 year event within what may be 12 years.
